Beauty Begins in the Mind
CEO and founder of Novita Spa on the Square shares how spa treatments lead to a healthy mindBy: Megan Di Martino
The definition of mental health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional wellbeing. How do we attain and maintain mental health? There are many answers this question. Factually, when one perceives that they look good, they feel good too, and when one feels good about themselves, they are in a much more balanced mental state.
Just go on the internet, there are an array of suggestions and answers to the above question about how to attain and maintain mental health. Answers include many things including both vacation and meditation. These are two vital components to me personally. I’ll expand on this with the expertise from my professional aesthetic background. I have been a skincare product developer, medical aesthetician, educator, and consultant of result-oriented skincare and medical spa treatments since 1992.
I have worked with many individuals who are dealing with emotional issues related to premature aging, skin conditions including acne and rosacea, couperose, melasma, psoriasis, eczema, and many auto-immune conditions that effect the epidermis. I have always approached every person individually and their personal needs and desires in reference to their appearance.
Each person’s case is like a snowflake, no two are the same. As an example, one situation could be rooted in allergies with a top note of emotion. Emotional stress worsens the condition. The next person’s manifestation may have stemmed from sun damage and now is caused by hormonal changes. Regardless of the cause, the individual does not look or feel good. The result is a breakdown of mental health.
Several years ago a young woman called the Novita Spa on the Square and Medical Rejuvenation Clinic two days before her wedding. The wedding was to be in Georgetown, Texas, her home town, and also where Novita Spa and Medical Rejuvenation Clinic is located. Her father had been here many times for massages. He was very familiar with our work and our commitment to excellence. A few days before the wedding, the bride-to-be had had a manicure, pedicure, and face wax in Dallas, where she lived. She was using Retin A, a drug which creates epidermal sensitivity. The waxer never asked if she was using Retinols. She was burned badly. She was in an emotional, mental health breakdown. Her father suggested calling us at Novita Spa and Medical Rejuvenation Clinic.
We prescribed her our Hyaluronic Acid-Cellular Regenerative Serum for her to do an all day and night application, keeping the epidermis moist, followed by a LED Photo Facial for two consecutive days. This saved her skin for the wedding! She was able to be the beautiful bride she wanted to be – mental health breakdown averted!
This is one of many examples of results-oriented products and treatments available today in the clinical-medial aesthetic toolbox. We at the Novita Spa and Medical Rejuvenation Clinic work from this place. Our philosophy is “clinical-medical excellence (true results) with a caring, pampering attitude.” This philosophy contributes to a mentally healthy guest experience.
We are a true hybrid in beauty offering traditional day, clinical-medical, and wellness spa treatments. There is a large amount of data and statistical studies available showing that touch and general interaction is imperative for our mental health. Massage and traditional facial work will assist in creating this balance. Infrared sauna and detox steam sessions not only detox the bodies system, but also create a sense of well-being among many other health and wellness results. There is an array of medical, aesthetic, and wellness treatments that benefit guests that create harmony and balance which leads to mental health.
